Road transportation prices remained almost stable (-0.2%) in France in March 2021, according to our Upply barometer. On the other hand, the volumes transported and diesel prices rose quite sharply.
In France, the month of March was first marked by the continuation of the health measures put in place in February, namely a curfew - throughout the territory and a weekend lockdown in the Alpes‑Maritimes and in the conurbation of Dunkirk. Then, on 18 March, in the face of the rise of Covid-19 cases, a 3rd lockdown was imposed in the 16 French departments most affected by the epidemic, including all the departments of Île-de-France and Hauts-de-France. The aim is to "confine without shutting in" about one third of the French population and its main economic heartbeat.
In this context, road transportation prices in France fell very slightly (-0.2%) and remained on the same (lack of) dynamic as seen in January and February of 2021. We make the same observation as last month : as shown in the graph below, the road transportation price curve levelled off again in the first quarter of 2021 but will most likely recover in the coming months, driven by demand and the soar in diesel prices.
